Effect of surface treatment on bond strength between zirconia and composite resin core material

Purpose: The recent development of enamel-colored translucent zirconia makes it a viable material to produce crowns. However, achieve sufficient surface roughness for bonding, alumina particle abrasion must be employed. In this study, the effects on and sample pretreatment bond strength between composite resin core were investigated compared optimize treatment conditions.Methods: Zirconia specimens abraded with particles bonded trial cores using dual-cure luting agent either an alumina-zirconia adhesive primer and/or porcelain primer. was observed via laser scanning microscopy, evaluated qualitatively.Results: peak-to-valley roughness, arithmetic mean height, root square skewness parameter values significantly increased after abrasion. greater when applied specimens, self-etching cores, prepared without primers. With primer, however, played no role in increasing strength.Conclusion: combination suitable is recommended improve core. Moreover, chemical more effective adhesion than silane coupling fillers.
